How we keep your horse happy & healthy
Ever since I brought my horse to Snow Creek Ranch, he just seems more content. He acts more energetic and I can see he’s happy in his eyes.Judy
We’ve spent a lifetime working and playing with horses, and it’s safe to say we love them as much as you do. That’s why we make it our mission to ensure that your horse is happy and healthy.
And in the case of most horses – just like with most people – happiness and healthiness go hand in hoof.
Healthy Roughage Like humans, horses love grains. But they need roughage to keep their gut healthy. So all of our residents receive plenty of organic grass and hay to keep your horse’s gut health at its peak. For $340 / Month, we provide 2 feedings each day. At the $400 level, your horse has access to roughage throughout the day.
A horse with an adequate amount of healthy roughage has plenty of energy to get the exercise he or she needs. And a well-exercised horse is a happy horse.
Proper hydration is another key to your animal’s health. Without adequate drinking water in her system, all that hay and grass in her gut will begin to compact, which can cause a variety of short and long term issues, notably painful or difficult evacuations.
Fresh air and Sunshine
Believe it or not horses do get depressed, especially when they don’t have the opportunity to be outside as nature intended them to be. You can get a sense for this whenever you walk through a darkened barn during the winter and can feel the restlessness of the animals as they pace, kick, and shift in their stalls.
Our unique track system makes sure your horse gets to be outside breathing in fresh air, and basking in the sun, while getting in a good workout, and breaking up his day a little. Read more about this unique program here.
Environmentally Responsible Horse Boarding Philosophy
We limit the number of horses on property to allow our residents ample space to roam, and to give each horse the individual attention they deserve.
Because our equine services professionals are committed to the well-being of your horse, we ask that you take responsibility for the health of your animal with regard to ferriers or vets (ask us for resources in this area if necessary).
We schedule an annual barn day every spring with Dr. Dale Rice of Three Peaks Veterinary. All boarders are encouraged to participate.
As animal lovers, we have always believed that responsible stewardship of the land is an important part of our calling to safeguard and replenish the earth. And we understand that protecting and preserving our precious environment is an important element of any Colorado rider’s decision making process when it comes to finding a place to board their horse.
We go above and beyond to provide:
- Manure composting to eliminate foul odors & reduce number of insects
- Blend of manure & hay replenishes organic material in pastures with appropriate carbon-to-nitrogen ratio
- Chickens aerate compost & pastures to reduce odor and insects
- Pasture rotation protects the health of your animal, while enhancing overall health of ranch ecosystem
